He worked his way through a file. His eyes were dry and burning, so he put a few drops of artificial tears in each one, blinked several times, reclined his oversized chair, and soon fell asleep.
A cool breeze blew across his face. He opened his eyes to see that his late wife, Joni standing by the chair. She was a glowing apparition in pure white. “You did well, Nick. She’s a good mother, and she’ll take care of you and Jordie for me. I can rest in peace now. She doesn’t need to worry—Jason is going to be all right.” The light brightened, and she was gone.
He turned out the lamp beside his chair, checked the doors, undressed in the bathroom, and climbed into bed.
Diana stirred.
“Don’t worry, honey. Jason is going to be all right.”
“I know,” she mumbled. “An angel told me.”
